It is anticipated that in 2026 we will move to a new Hearing Rehabilitation Specialist (HRS) Examination process. We will notify all Full Member – Interns and publish the new process once this has been finalised.
The current Hearing Rehabilitation Specialist (HRS) Examination is an online exam via MS Teams and is held each month over 3-4 days during a pre-scheduled week, depending on examiner availability. A Full Member – Intern must have completed their 26 weeks of supervision before they can sit the exam. We encourage members to book in early, typically once they have completed level 2 supervision, as spaces fill very quickly. The cost of the exam is $990.
The HRS Exam runs for approximately 1.5 hours, with three (3) examiners present. During this exam candidates will be asked questions relating to their prepared case study plus additional resources supplied by the examiners. This examination covers everything related to assessment and adult rehabilitation. The candidate must be able to demonstrate adequate knowledge and clinical application of that knowledge across all the competency areas that they have been signed off as competent by their supervisor to be deemed Competent during their internship. Results are typically provided within 24 hours.
A candidate who is deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC) on their first attempt may not resit the examination for a period of three (3) months and must remain under Level 3 supervision during this time. The second attempt must be completed within twelve (12) months.
A candidate who is deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC) on their second attempt may not resit the examination for a period of three (3) months. Their supervisors will be notified, and the candidate must revert to Level 2 supervision during this period. The third attempt must be completed within twelve (12) months.
A candidate who is deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC) for the third time, will be moved to Affiliate Membership. Please note, as an Affiliate Member you are no longer able to carry out any clinical duties or internship program with ACAud inc. HAASA.
